Voting in Tarrant County

Required Identification at the Polls

Under Texas law, you must present one of the seven acceptable forms of photo identification when voting in person:

• Texas Driver License issued by DPS
• Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
• Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
• Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
• U.S. Military Identification Card containing your photograph
• U.S. Citizenship Certificate containing your photograph
• U.S. Passport (Book or Card)

Note: With the exception of the U.S. Citizenship Certificate, the identification must be current or have expired no more than 4 years before being presented for voter qualification at the polling place.

Mail-In Ballot Eligibility Requirements

Tarrant County registered voters are eligible to request and receive a ballot by mail if any of the following conditions prevents them from voting in-person during early voting or on Election Day:

• Age: 65 years of age or older.
• Disability: “I affirm that I have a sickness or physical condition that prevents me from appearing at the polling place on Election Day without a likelihood of needing personal assistance or injuring my health.”
• Childbirth: Expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day.
• Absence from County: Expected absence from the County during both the early voting period and on Election Day. (The ballot must be mailed to an address outside the County.)
• Confinement: Confined in Jail (not finally convicted of a felony) or Involuntary Commitment (You may only apply for a ballot for one election and any resulting runoff).
